.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

- Summer like conditions through early next week

- Above normal temperatures on Tuesday

A quiet weather window of northwesterly flow aloft will persist
into Monday. High pressure to the west, low pressure to the east
is keeping dry air over the Northern Rockies. Expect daytime high
temperatures today to be pretty close to seasonal norms. A gradual
warmup will take place on Monday and Tuesday, with Tuesday looking
like the warmest day of the week. Triple digits will grace the
lower Salmon and Clearwater valleys of Idaho, while the lower
valleys in western Montana see mid 90s. A shortwave previously
reported to arrive on Tuesday is trending slower, so backing off
on chances for precipitation.

A fast-moving shortwave trough is still looking to traverse the
northern border on Wednesday as upper level flow becomes more
westerly. This feature will bring some chances for rain to
northern locales such as Yaak and Eureka, and possibly along the
Continental Divide in Glacier Park. Further south, a weak cold
front associated with the Canadian trough will bring enhanced
westerly winds. Low humidity will create some increased fire
weather concerns for southwest Montana.

Cooler, breezy conditions are setting up for Thursday into Friday
next week as the upper level flow remains westerly and the
gradient tightens. Some ensemble solutions are hinting at
unsettled weather for next weekend, but there is too much spread
in model output for much confidence.

&&

.AVIATION...Expect dry and warm conditions through Monday. Cloud
cover at about 10,000 ft AGL is lingering early this afternoon at
KBTM and KSMN, but visible satellite imagery is indicating a
thinning cloud deck, so clear skies should prevail by mid
afternoon. Winds will be light and terrain driven.

&&

.MSO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
MT...None.
ID...Heat Advisory from noon to 10 PM PDT Tuesday for Lower Hells
     Canyon/Salmon River Region...Orofino/Grangeville Region.
